Day one – Krakow

April 24, 2006

When we arrived in
Poland we noticed how rapidly our group’s emotions changed – we became serious, focused, and very curious. As the day went on, though we were tired, we happily walked through the streets of
Krakow and learned from Rabbi Matanky and our other chaperones. At the Rama Shul we sang a Carelbach nigun that really united our region –
Chicago,
Dallas, and
Kansas. So far, things have been running smoothly and we’ve already learned so much about our pasts. We are really anxious for tomorrow’s march, but we still have so much to do today (kick off event, learning, unpacking, etc.).

Love,

Hanna Sorkin and Dani Singer

    Wow!
It’s hard to believe that you are all in Poland and the MARCH is actually tomorrow. So much has gone into this event. Take advantage of this most memorable opportunity, so that you can tell the story as you will have lived history.
    Much love to all,

ditto..on the wow!!! can’t believe you are actually there. keep writing. it is wonderful for us to know where you are, what you are seeing and to know your emotions. it is so different than reading an itinerary. you are all so blessed to be experiencing this piece of history and such a global atrocity. journal journal because it will be so much to take in and will be up to all of you to pass on! i hope this is a real bonding experience for all of you and it will enrich your feeling and knowledge of your religious heritage. my thoughts are with all of you.

    love to all of you!!

After all of the things you have seen and learned I wanted to make sure that I got this message in to Alitza: It’s almost Shabbat in Poland, I’m hoping for you to get this message after Havdalah. We didn’t want to miss giving you a “Happy Birthday, we love you!” greeting!
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO to you all, Mom and Carlye
